Created from a burl, the artist has made excellent use of the natural shape to construct a compelling animal or demon.  By crafting eyes and accentuating a knobby protrusion they have created a bulbous nose, ears, horns – the right horn is suggested as being close to the right ear, a third eye in the forehead and a benign mouth, also highlighted by manipulation, resulting in a commanding object.  These items are believed to possess magical ancestral power.
