This conical hat is one of the few items of material culture collected from Mornington Island which  is located in Queensland, Northern Australia in the Gulf of Carpenteria.  The conical shape is distinctive to the peoples on the leeward or North and West sides of the island.  Usually ornamented with a linear design from the peak to the brim, this example is distinctive with it's curvilinear pattern.
