20th Century

The Kenga are located in the Batha region in central Chad, near the southern edge of the Sahara Desert.  This Guera-Naba sub group, live in the mountainous area known as Hadjeray which means "of the stones or mountains".

The artistry of this man's armband creates an elegant zoomorphic form reminiscent of buffalo horns.  The level of detail in the casting, reflects the importance it held as a currency.  A man would proudly wear a pair to show his wealth.  Some restoration.
