A marvelously intricate, textural and witty object.  Each “spike” created by the age old spool knitting technique, with the strands of each spear manipulated into open squares before dispersal into the next part of the pattern.  The open squares, masterfully accentuated by utilizing only the white fibers, provide additional depth and character to the piece.  Such a degree of art and complexity is appropriate for the kings and chiefs for whom these hats are made.
